Choices & Motivation.

Motivation and choices relate more than you think. In my experience, people believe they can make choices if motivated. And stick to those choices. But choices and motivation have a deeper connection. When I make a good choice that aligns with my values and goals, I become motivated through the very act of choosing. You make choices, and then motivation will come.

The other way around seems weird. Why would motivation come to magically? In some cases where you hear an inspiring speech, motivation to do something might go magically. But the motivation dies down quickly if you have nothing to put all that motivation into. Don't rely on this motivation because you won't sustain the motivation.

Choices, on the other hand, can be an endless supply of motivation. If you choose and act, as described in the chapter "Choose," you will gain motivation. The days that feel the best for me are when I choose the day before what I want to do the next day. Then I act the choices out, and in the act and aftermath of acting them out, I gain so much motivation. Each task completed fills my motivation; generally speaking, I do much more than expected.

Iron Man's journey from a carefree billionaire to a hero who makes the ultimate sacrifice is guided by his choices. Each choice he makes, beginning with constructing the first Iron Man suit, builds his motivation to save the world. It's not just about being motivated to do good; his choices reaffirm his identity as a hero and propel him forward. Each choice he makes makes him more motivated to become Iron Man. He gets his motivation from his choices.

His motivation and drive were so inspiring that even Elon Musk's employees who left the companies because of burnout would come running back because, with Elon Musk, they feel motivated — they are on a mission. This choice, to even come back after burnout, shows that choices like these give motivation. They didn't have the same motivation until they chose to return.
