Summary of Dragon Fire Method©

The 'Dragon Fire Method©' is a 5-step method to help you make choices. It is a framework that provides you with a clear way of tackling choices step by step. But most of all, the method turns you into a warrior that is willing to take on any choice you face. Everyone should become a choice warrior, conquering challenges and bending life's iron chains!

In this chapter, I will show you how you can become a warrior who faces up to dangers and makes choices. Each step will be explained in a simple way. In fact, you might only need this chapter; you could even rip it out and hang it on your wall. The chapters after this will further deepen each step and method with analyses and examples.

The 'Dragon Fire Method©' is a method containing 5 steps. Here they are in short:

1. Accept the dragon

Accept that the dragon exists. Don't be ignorant of the dangers. Time is here to get us all.

2. See the treasure

Every dragon has a treasure. Pick a goal that is your treasure, making it the focus of your journey. Let this treasure guide your choices, giving your adventure a clear aim.

3. Draw a map

Drawing a map means planning your path carefully. List the steps and obstacles, marking the good and bad routes. The map shows you which paths will move you closer to your goal and which lead to dead ends.

4. Go through the dragon's fire

Making a choice is an act of courage. Be a warrior and make a choice that you act out. Thinking alone doesn't change anything. You must go through the dragon's fire.

5. Dragons chase you

Once you have made a choice, you have crossed a bridge. You then need to act it out. The fire behind you will catch up if you don't act it out.

So, that’s the method in its shortest form, let's now look a little more closely at step 1:

1. Accept the dragon

Dragons represent the choices and challenges we face in life: harmless and adorable when we are young, their potential for danger grows as we do. As adults, avoiding decisions can make the dragon of our life's direction large and intimidating, capable of inducing anxiety and a sense of aimlessness.

The 'Dragon Fire Method©' encourages acknowledging and accepting the dragon, no matter its size, and recognizing that our choices, big or small, feed into the dragon's growth. This metaphor parallels the experiences of fictional characters like Frodo Baggins and Harry Potter, who faced unique challenges only they could address. Similarly, in real life, we must confront our personal dragons—our decisions and challenges—because only we can determine the course of our lives.

2. See the Treasure

The quest to tackle life's challenges requires a clear purpose, much like the fictional pursuits of Harry Potter and Frodo Baggins. Goals serve as both the carrot and the stick; they are the treasures we seek and the impetus that drives us forward through dangers and difficulties.

A goal is not merely a specific target or a lofty aspiration but can also be the pursuit of a desired feeling or a vision of a fulfilling future. It’s exemplified by characters like Luke Skywalker, whose life's direction was set once he aspired to become a Jedi, and real-life figures like Mr Beast, whose goal of reaching 1 billion subscribers on YouTube illustrates the power of a clear objective.

Goals are essential, whether they are world-altering ambitions or day-to-day objectives like resolving a family issue or completing education with minimal effort. The key is that the goal holds personal significance, guiding one's immediate choices and overall life path.

3. Draw a map

Having accepted the dragon and set a goal, the next step is to navigate the unclear path ahead. This process involves analyzing the potential outcomes of choices, akin to standing at a crossroads shrouded in fog, where each path is obscured by uncertainty.

That's where the third step comes into play — analyzing the choices and drawing a map. It's like standing at a crossroads, except every path is hidden behind a curtain of uncertainty. You must part the curtains to find your way. Where we can't, we have to take risks and assume the path.

It's critical to weigh the pros and cons of each decision, understanding that real choices require sacrifice; without it, the decision would be obvious and not truly a choice. Unlike the clear-cut choices presented in 'The Matrix,' real-life decisions often come with complex layers and potential for regret. The key is to seek the truth in each situation, questioning whether the perceived pros and cons are as they appear.

4. Go through the dragon's fire

The culmination of the journey in facing life's challenges is the act of choosing. One must take decisive action. The apprehension felt at this moment is comparable to the high-stakes decisions faced by characters in epic narratives, such as Harry Potter confronting Voldemort or Aragorn in 'The Lord of the Rings' rallying the Army of the Dead.

These choices are significant, symbolizing a commitment that will impact the future. Just like Frodo deciding to take the Ring to Mordor, understanding the gravity of inaction, the choice embodies purpose and consequence.

The act of choosing, whether it be trivial or life-changing, requires one to commit fully, embrace the inherent risks, and take ownership of the decision. It’s about charging towards the dragon with determination, stepping confidently on the path towards one's goal, and committing to the journey ahead, despite the unknowns that may lie in wait.

Choosing is about going through the dragon's fires to face the dragon head on.

5. Dragons chase you

Upon choosing a path, one might feel triumphant, but this is the stage where reality asserts itself: challenges continue to emerge, much like dragons in pursuit. The fifth step highlights that choices do not eliminate challenges; they provoke them, testing your resolve and commitment. In narratives, protagonists like Luke Skywalker and Frodo Baggins face continuous tests after their initial choices. This reflects the real-life experience that making a decision—such as leaving a stable job for entrepreneurship—invites new challenges that test and ultimately shape your resolve and capabilities.

Conclusion

This journey of choice is not a one-time act but a continuous battle, requiring constant vigilance and readiness to adapt and move forward. Understanding that challenges will follow decisions is not a deterrent but a preparation for the journey ahead, distinguishing the committed from the tentative. This method involves recognizing and facing life's difficulties (Accepting the Dragon), setting an objective (Setting Your Goal), evaluating options (Analyzing Choices), making a decision (Choosing), and persisting despite ongoing challenges (Dragons Chase You).

The path of life is complex and nonlinear, with choices that shape who we become. Unlike the binary options in 'The Matrix,' real-life choices are multifaceted, requiring a nuanced approach. The five-step method provides a framework to navigate these decisions, serving as a toolkit for personal growth and storytelling. The following chapters promise a deeper exploration of choice analysis and goal-setting.
